Living It Out:
A survival guide for lesbian, gay and bisexual Christians and their friends, families
and churches
by Rachel and Sarah Hagger-Holt (2009)
We should be eternally grateful to Network member
Rachel and her partner Sarah for giving us this practical, honest and cheerful book.
It shares personal stories of over fifty individuals
belonging to a wide range of denominations and theological outlooks who are living out their
faith as sexual human beings.
Each chapter considers a different aspect or
challenge of leading a Christian life with integrity and weaves the experiences of the
contributors into a prayerful resource for us to draw on as we make our own journey.
Veronica Zundel, Christian author and columnist
describes it as "Full of faith, honesty, compassion and common sense, this book is a sane and
healing word spoken in the 'gay Christian' debate. A must whether you're gay or straight."
Exchanging the
truth of God for a lie
by Jeremy Marks (2009)
All those who seek to use the Bible to clobber
lesbian and gay Christians should read this book. Sadly few do! As a young Christian,
Jeremy took at face value what he heard preached, particularly through the exceptional
ministry of David Pawson at Guildford Baptist Church about 'crucifying his sinful nature'
and in 1988 founded the ex-Gay ministry Courage.
This is the story of the next twenty years,
as he pastored and shared the struggles of many like himself desperate to be cured of same-sex
attraction, experiencing the often devastating effect the programmes had on those involved.
It took real courage to risk losing everything by returning to the Bible to re-examine what
it says in the light of experience and re-forming Courage as a ministry affirming people and
loving relationships.
This is for all of us who value the Bible too
much to allow it to be hijacked by those who use it to reinforce their prejudices, but are
concerned not to replace theirs with our own. We are greatly blessed that Jeremy is also one
of our members.
